– Nails, Nails, Nails. | NERDLACQUER, Cheeky Monkey, Essie on 12 November, 2011
Since today is what I like to consider my off day, I didn't make any VLOGS today nor will I be uploading a FOTD. Today is just one of those days where I just went about browsing in the blogs I follow and just checked up on their posts. Of course going through the blogs gave me insight on what I wanted to get and try out one day. Since I'm a huuuuge nail freak, I went on kind of this nail binge today....hence the title.
So, I discovered a few new brands and revisited a couple of brands that I simply adore and definitely need to own once again. Consider this a filler post and you can choose to read it or not.Also, today I went out with my mum again and you know what that means? More stuff. Today was a good day to shop.
NERDLACQUER;
NERDLACQUER is a new brand of polishes by bystringtheory on Etsy and originally, I had heard about NERDLACQUER through Wendi(MakeupZombie) earlier this month, but true to my nature, I had honestly forgotten about it until I stumbled upon it again recently through April(Concrete and Nail Polish). The real reason this particular brand of polishes got me interested was because of how it is made and what it's made of. NERDLACQUER is described as:
All polishes come in a standard full-sized 15ml / .5oz bottle, not a mini. All are blended from existing colors plus lacquer base and loose glitters and micas, and combine anywhere from 6 to a dozen (or more!) different shades and components. The vast majority of component polishes are 3-free, but some are not. They ARE all cruelty-free, however. I don't use any lacquers from brands who test on animals.
The bolded parts are what excited me. Any lacquer that is created through combinations of released colours, glitters, micas and shades is a lacquer that I must have sometime in my life. Oh and they are cruelty-free? Yeah, this brand is just winning me over more and more. Since I had some time on my hands, I did manage to check various blogs and sites that have reviewed and tested out this brand and it's pretty safe to say that NERDLACQUER's owner, Ashley Collins is definitely in the right direction with how she produces this line of lacquers.
That means I definitely need to get my hands on some and test them out. Plus, $8.00 for one and $21.00 for a three pack....I can dig it. (Woe is me for being a poor, soon-to-be college kid. ;ㅂ;)
Cheeky Monkey;
Now, Cheeky Monkey is still extremely new to me and by extremely new, I mean like today new. I stumbled upon them through Rin(Rin's Nail Files) and I just had to check them out. So I headed over to their website and skimmed through the polishes. I must say, they have some of the most creative and humorous lacquer names I have heard in a while. Cheeky Monkey is a cosmetics line founded by Andrea Phan and is described as:
We believe all women should feel free to express their personal edginess. You work hard, make responsible choices and embrace life to the fullest. Engage the cheeky side of things – you get the joke. You know that to be good, you have to be a little naughty. Cheeky Monkey cosmetics are environmentally safe and 3 Free healthy. They are edgy and fun, but above all, high quality. Just like the women who wear them.
Doesn't that make you go "Hmmm....gurl, you are so right. I'm a diva and definitely need a polish that shows off that inner diva that is me."
.....no? That's just me? Oh, well then......
Anyway, the polish seem pretty legit from what I've seen. The colours are pretty nice and they seem to have that gloss/shine that I so greatly appreciate. I'm still a bit hesitant towards them, but I'll just have to do more research before I can decide whether or not I really want to purchase from them one day.
Essie;
I'm pretty sure that Essie needs no introduction. For those people that truly, truly know me and my love for polishes, know that I lovelovelove (Epik High reference) Essie. Essie is one of the few brands that actually got me started in adoring nail lacquers and made me want to explore the whole Nail Art business. I adore Essie. I don't remember how I stumbled upon Essie, I think it was on Tumblr like a year or two ago and I stumbled across a blog that was dedicated to Nail Art and the artists used Essie polishes. I immediately fell in love with how vibrant the colours seemed and also with the fact that they were cruelty-free (alongside OPI).
What really was a shock to me was when I stumbled upon them in my local Walmart and CVS. Anyone who followed Essie for a while, knows that Essie was pretty hard for us to come by and to suddenly see it in our everyday stores shocked me just a bit. After a bit of research, I realized why they were suddenly popping up in these places. Essie along with OPI are now apart of L'Oréal USA's family. Now, a lot of people were up in arms about this because L'Oréal happens to be one of the cosmetic companies that is known for testing their products on animals. This definitely had me up in a state of slight confusion, however, I do support Essie a lot and I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It would be an extreme let down for them to totally change the way they work things because they are under L'Oréal now.
Putting all that aside for now, has anyone seen Essie's winter collection? It looks so gorgeous and ugh, I need to get my hands on some of their polishes soon, I don't think I can handle being teased by these beauts any longer.
Lacquers are a drug. Don't judge me.
As I stated earlier, I went out with my madre again because she wanted to get new clothes and shoes for her little clubbing outing that she just left for and I managed to pick up a few things. I'll eventually come back and edit this post to add a picture, but gah. I was so happy that I got what I did.
Today, I got a brand spanking new manicure set, a nail trimmer set, two headphones (Zeus knows I needed it), an eyelash curler (thank heavens), and nail hardener (it also helps with nail growth too). The manicure set is probably the purchase that makes me the most happy. It came with a fingernail and toenail clipper, razor and blades, a travel toothbrush, shoehorn, tweezers, cuticle scissors, travel mirror, nail file, cuticle pusher and a mini multi tool. Half this is so random in this set, but I love it soooo much. I squeed all in the checkout line after my mum was just like "Go get the set you wanted." Day. was. made.
That's pretty much all I have for today. Like I said, today was a Yasu off day and it was a rare one too. So, I milked it for all it's worth by doing nothing but chillaxing allll daay.
Until next time ~ <3Labels: Beauty (Cosmetics), Cheeky Monkey, Essie, Hauls (Text), Nails (Lacquers), NERDLACQUER, Wishlist
